    Departmental Activities

    1. New Horizons Poster presentation competition : This is signature activity, we are organizing every year. In this academic event, every participant presenting his/her posters based on Projects Work, which is the mandatory part of University syllabus. Each poster is examined by Experts invited from other institutes. The first three posters of each subjects are awarded by cash prize. 2. CHEMQUIZ: It is pre-entrance competitive examination of M. Sc, conducted by Dept. of Chemistry, at University level for B. Sc. III Chemistry students. This activity is conducted from last 10 yrs. 3.Green College Project in 2013: In 2013, we have conducted Green College Projects for plantation in college campus. More than 500 hundred plants of different species were adopted by students for cultivated and conservation. 4.National conference FCBS-2013: On 23-24 September 2013, we organized National Conference on Frontiers in Chemical and Biological sciences. Conference was inaugurated by Hon. M. M. Salunkhe, Vice Chancellor, Central University, Rajasthan. In all 82 papers were presented by participants with their valuable research on different subjects. 5.Consultancy Services:IR spectrometer is fully utilized for spectral analysis of samples from same and other institutions.

  • Strength

The Department of Chemistry has been established in June 1986 having strength 10, and currently 139 students are completing their graduation in chemistry. The Chemistry Department is one of the leading departments of this college. The department launched M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry programme in the academic year 2008-09 of intake capacity 20 students, which is increased to 40 students from year 2014. We attract top-rate graduate students for post-graduation from across the Shivaji University area. From our department 3 students qualified NET-JRF, 2 NET-LS and 2 students are qualified GATE examinations. Now a department is runningPh.Dprogramme either full-time or part-time and M.Phil.full-timecourse in chemistry. In the department, there are 15 young chemists studying for their Ph.D. and M. Phil. Much of the training and information in research techniques for Ph.D. students comes from other research workers both in the same research group and in other groups, so students get excellent training in their own area and opportunities to learn about many other areas. The department has a new lecture room equipped with the latest instruments. The department has recently received much amount of finance under different government funding programmes, like UGC-BSR (10 lakhs), UGC-Additional Assistance Grant Phase-I (12.05 lakhs), DST-FIST (50 lakhs). As a result almost all of synthetic chemistry and chemical biology research is housed in brand new labs with state-of-the-art facilities. The Department has a wealth of equipment of all sorts ranging from MW synthesizer, UV-Visible and FT-IR spectroscopy to High Pressure Liquid Chromatography. We also have the other facilities which include our own departmental library, cybercafé, lecture room and seminar rooms. There are 16 support staffs working both for UG and PG courses from different branches of chemistry. Most of M. Sc. students are also have weekly seminars where they give short talks on their own topic of interest or some topic from the chemical literature. Many of our faculty members have received research grants from different government funding agencies like UGC and DST of Rs. 47.99 lakhs. 1) Faculty - A 2) Department - 3) Strengths of the Department : 1) Laboratory Recognized for M.Phil., Ph.D. by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. 2) Organization of National ConferenceFCBS-2013 3)Ten Students are working for Ph.D. and M.Phil 4) Departmental Activities : 1) Excursion Tour M.
