Importance of NCC in Students Life

Now-a-days India is not on good terms with some neighboring countries. Our freedom is our birth right. It must be defended at all costs. The defense of our country demands that all young men of the country should undergo military training so that their services may be utilized when needed. With this end in view the National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.) Act was passed in 1948. The main object of the Act is to impart military training to students reading in schools and colleges. Since then the N.C.C. training has been started in schools and colleges. Under this scheme boys are given military training by their teachers trained in the N.C.C.

The NCC is one of the premier youth organizations in our country, contributed in propagating national unity and integrity amongst youth. Its role in instilling in them the values of character, discipline and hard work and in shaping them into dynamic and responsible citizens of the country had been well recognized. It is one of the foremost organization which grooms the youth, the students to be worthy citizens and future leaders of our nations and further it instills in students discipline, courage, and patriotism.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) helps for nation-building. It provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities, with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline, and Adventure Training. NCC provides us a platform through which we can shape our future path build up courage, grit, passion, team spirit, leadership & most importantly healthy mind-set to face hardships. It inculcates all the required qualities which an Indian army wants in their responsible officers.

National Cadet Corps is a voluntary organization for the students of different schools and colleges under the program. The minimum age limit for school students to join NCC is 13; all students above the age of 13 years can join as junior cadets and students from class XI and above, can join this organization as senior cadets.

The main aim of the training given is to:

  1. Develop in youth the quality of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, and spirit of adventure, sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens who can serve their country effectively and passionately.
  2. Organize, train and motivate youth, to provide leadership qualities in every sphere of life including the Armed Forces and to empower them in such a way that they are always ready to serve their nation.
  3. Motivate the youth of our country to take up a career in the Armed Forces.

There are many benefits of NCC in a student's life. We gain a lot of knowledge about the defense forces. An NCC cadet also has to participate in the campaigns like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Fit India Movements, Tree plantation campaigns, etc. Which helps in the development of the country as well as it increases the generosity of the cadets. Every student should be enrolled in NCC as it makes up a student's personality.

Youth Exchange Program

Youth Exchange Program between NCC of India and youth organizations of other countries are undertaken yearly form past many years and this includes mutual visits for up to 24 days in another country, in which cadets undertake billeting families, community work projects, educational activities etc. The exchange program is aimed to develop mutual respect, adaptability in new condition, training to work among new people, learn self-discipline, cross-cultural learning and above all, love for one’s country.

The N.C.C. has become very popular. It is the need of the hour. For this reason the Government has made the N.C.C. compulsory in colleges. Every student should join the N.C.C. by doing so, he can be useful to the country and society.
