Department at a Glance
The department of English has been established for UG in 1974 and for PG in 1986. The department received recognition for its socio-cultural work. The department has signed MOU with R.R.Patil Mahavidyalaya, Savalajto co-operate in educational, academic, research events of mutual interest as well as in trainings. Apart from syllabus based learning, the department has conducted other skill based courses to strengthen the ability and quality of the students. ‘A Certificate Course in Translation’ and UGC Career Oriented Course entitled Functional English has been conducting since last five years. The department also conducted a certificate course in Mass Communication for the students of all streams. Along with this students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities arranged in the college and outside.
The department has formed English Literary Association for organizing various curricular and co-curricular activities. Under this the department organizes Inaugural Function of Literary Association at the beginning of every academic year. The department has also organized One Day Workshop on different skills such as Soft Skills, Personality Development, Interview Skills and Writing Skills.
The department of English celebrates Teachers` Day on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Late. Dr. Radhakrishan each year. The students of optional and special English has been celebrating Shakespeare`s Birth and Death Anniversary on 23rd April with the programmes of poster presentation, recitation of poetry and reading dialogues from Shakespeare`s plays. To make teaching-learning process learner centric, the department conducts ICT based teaching which includes screening of plays, some movies based on literature such as novels, short stories, videos based on language and literature and PPT presentation. To develop language skills of students the department recently established well equipped Interactive Language Laboratory.
The department constantly involves in research innovative activities, as an outcome,the student of the department, Ms.Poonam Pore has won the first prize and Mr.Vivek Maratha has won the second prize in Humanities at college level Vasant Avishkar. As the outcome of Vasant Avishkar Miss Poonam Pore has won the second prize at District Level Avishkar poster presentation organized by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Along with university examinations the department has adopted continuous internal evaluation system as a result Mrs.ManishaThorat, student of M.A.II has got first rank in the university merit list in the academic year 2018-19. The student of BA III, Miss Karishma Awale has worked as a second lead character in the Marathi film ‘Galli’ and ‘Madira’.
